The Woodbine & Ivy Band are a collective of Manchester musicians who came together to play traditional British folk music under the direction of Peter Philipson (ex-Starless and Bible Black).  The musicians' backgrounds are in alt-folk, jazz, improve, indie and Americana, and they bring these diverse influences to their interpretations of the songs.  The Woodbine and Ivy Band are not interested in 'modernizing' folk music but simply playing it in a way that makes sense to them. Featured on the album performing renditions of their favourite tunes are Jakie Oates, Fay Hield, Nancy  Wallace, Olivia Chaney and Jim Causley.
